Dr. Taylor obtained his medical degree from the University of Toronto where he also completed postgraduate surgical training. From 1983 to 1989 he was Director of Postgraduate Education for the University Department of Surgery, from 1989-99 the University Chair of General Surgery, and from 1999-2011, the James Wallace McCutcheon Chair, Surgeon-in-Chief and Director of Surgical Services at the University Health Network. He served as Associate Chair of the University of Toronto Department of Surgery 1996-2010.
In 2008 and 2009 he devoted significant time and effort to the safe surgery checklist and its adoption throughout Canada as a special advisor to the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. In the summer of 2011, he published a book entitled “Effective Medical Leadership”.
He has served as a CMHF Board member, Chair of the Fund Development Committee, and as Board Chair (2016 - 2019).
