HONOURING AND INSPIRING A NEW GENERATION OF HEALTH LEADERS AND INNOVATORS
LONDON, ON – The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Award recognizes medical students with an established track record of community leadership and superior communication skills who have demonstrated interest in advancing knowledge. 17 Canadian medical students have been selected to receive this award. This new generation of health leaders and innovators receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a travel subsidy to attend the 2025 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Hamilton, Ontario, where they will have the opportunity to network with the new CMHF Laureates.
The CMHF partners with Canada’s medical schools, as well as other donors to recognize young leaders who exemplify qualities of the CMHF Laureates: perseverance, collaboration and entrepreneurial spirit. The CMHF Award for Medical Students is sponsored by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), MD Financial Management Inc. (MD), and Scotiabank. Together, the CMA, MD and Scotiabank are firmly committed to supporting the medical profession and advancing health in Canada. As proof of this commitment, in collaboration with the CMA and MD, Scotiabank is investing $115 million to support physicians and the communities they serve across Canada.
"We are proud to recognize and support the next generation of physicians in Canada,” said Dr. Joss Reimer and Dr. Kathleen Ross, presidents of the Canadian Medical Association. “Their leadership and dedication to their communities is inspiring and will serve them well in future years as they care for patients. We are grateful for their passion and look forward to welcoming them to their future roles in medicine.”
“MD and Scotiabank are honoured to sponsor the CMHF Awards which recognize inspiring future medical leaders in medical schools across the country,” said MD Financial Management CEO, Pamela Allen. “Through their passion for learning and strong leadership skills, these award winners demonstrate their commitment to making an impact in their communities. I wish each of them the best in their future endeavours.”
Each of Canada’s faculties of medicine and health sciences facilitated the review of applicants and recommended one award recipient. Three letters of support are required including a non-academic community reference describing their community impact, along with a 1,000-word essay describing why they should be considered for the Award and articulating the qualities of a CMHF Laureate who inspires them most.
