What happened after high school?
After high school, I attended Western University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Medical Science. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong interest in mental health and began conducting research at Parkwood Institute Mental Health Care in London. After completing my degree, I enrolled in a four-year program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, where my interest in mental health deepened. I had the opportunity to write a research paper on mental health, which is currently under review for publication and have recently started a new paper on the same subject. Reflecting on my journey, I never would have imagined in high school that I’d be where I am today. I am now in my final year of naturopathic medicine and look forward to beginning my practice as a naturopathic doctor in the near future.
What do you remember from the Discovery Day event and what impact did it have on you?
I vividly remember Discovery Day in Health Sciences when I was in Grade 11. Two workshops stood out to me: the anatomy cadaver workshop and the biomedical engineering workshop. The first workshop involved going into the cadaver lab and getting an overview of human anatomy. We had the privilege of not only seeing real organs but also being able to hold them. This was an incredible experience, to say the least. The workshop provided an exciting preview of what being in the lab is like as an undergraduate student studying anatomy. The second workshop involved visiting a biomedical engineering lab, where we saw the process behind designing and developing devices that advance medicine. Specifically, there was one machine I distinctly remember—a sophisticated device used to enhance the precision of surgeries. We even got to test it out! This day was an unforgettable experience that heightened my excitement for pursuing science.
